Gardens

There are a variety of Gardens in Kashmir each unique in itself.

Mughal Gardens, Tulip Gardens, Apple Gardens or islands or floating gardens on the Dal Lake in Kashmir, are formed from the weeds, after collecting them from the lake itself. Such weeds mostly consist of Typha augustata and Phragmites communis which are in Kashmiri language known as Pech and Nargasa, respectively

These gardens are home to a variety of trees, plants, herbs, flowers and especially Chinar tree that enhance their beauty. In Kashmir region, most of the gardens are made in the Persian style of architecture as Mughals were highly impressed by it.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden: in Srinagar is the largest tulip garden in Asia spread over an area of about 30 hectares. It is situated on the foothills of Awesome Zabarwan Range with an overview of Dal Lake. The garden was opened in 2007 with the aim to boost tourism in Kashmir Valley. The garden is built on a sloping ground in a terraced fashion consisting of seven terraces. Apart from tulips, many other species of flowers – hyacinths, daffodils and ranunculus have been added as well

Tulip festival is an annual celebration that aims to showcase the range of flowers in the garden as a part of tourism efforts by the Government. It is organized during the onset of spring season in Kashmir valley generally between 15th March and 15th April.
